The Emery County Community Foundation put on the 3rd annual Darrell Gardner 5k Run on Saturday at Emery High School.
The former Emery Track coach passed away May 31, 2010 in a tragic accident on his farm.
“I want everyone to keep remembering how amazing he was,” said Kristy Guymon, the event’s organizer. “He was always so good to help out the community and this is a way to honor him and keep his memory alive.”
Participants paid $10 to enter the race and $15 to add a shirt that saidВ Gardner’sВ favorite saying “Git R’ Done” on the front. The back featured another of Gardner’s favorite saying “Peace, Love and Run Naked.”
Proceeds from the event will go toward a scholarship in Gardner’s name and will be awarded to a high school senior.
About 40 runners participated in the run.
