Dave Smith Wrestling Scholarship Fund Gains Traction

At the end of 2018, former Carbon wrestling coach Dave Smith was honored at one the school’s wrestling matches. It was announced that each year, the Dave Smith Wrestling Scholarship will be awarded to the individual who embodies the values that Smith represented, including a strong work ethic in and out of the wrestling room, a positive influence on others, and the ability to instill goodness in everyone.

A committee will be formed and include Smith’s wife, Kathy, to qualify the individual. In order to be eligible for the award, one must wrestle for Carbon High for a minimum of three years, demonstrate leadership and loyalty to the team, practice and compete with intensity, honor the school through grateful citizenship, and excel in the academic arena. The qualified individual will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship as well as a plaque to go along with the honor.

The hope is that the scholarship with live in perpetuity. Donations to the Dave Smith Wrestling Scholarship Fund will be accepted. Anyone wishing to donate to the fund can do so by mail at the address listed below. A receipt will be returned for tax purposes. A “thank you” from the Dave Smith Wrestling Scholarship Committee has been extended in advance to any who choose to donate.
