Despite five treys from freshman Kacelyn Toomer, the Delta Rabbits ran away from the Emery Lady Spartans Tuesday night in the 48-37 win.
The 2A defending champion Rabbits jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first quarter, leading by as many as 13 points before Emery cut it to 10, 19-9, by the end of the quarter.
Toomer and Abbie Huntington connected on back-to-back buckets and Lainee Jensen hit a runner in the lane with under two minutes to play in the half to cut the Delta lead to four, 25-21. The Rabbits scored the final three points of the half to lead 28-21 at the break.
After a quick 5-0 spurt by Delta to open the third to lead 33-21, both teams traded buckets for the rest of the quarter, including two threes by Toomer.
Another Toomer three pulled Emery the closest it would get in the half, 43-35, three minutes into the fourth before Delta extended its lead back to 13 by the end of the game.
Toomer scored a career-high 15 points. She also nabbed five boards in the game. No other player scored more than four points. Huntington and Jessica Olsen combined to grab 16 rebounds.
