The Emery Spartans hosted the Delta Rabbits on Friday in Castle Dale to try to make it two wins in a row, something that hasn’t been done all season. Unfortunately, the Delta bats were hot as the team tallied 19 runs in the game to Emery’s nine.
Delta exploded in the first inning, notching seven runs off of starter Race Nielson, who also took the loss. The Rabbits added two more in the second but the Spartans responded with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to four, 9-5. Delta would go on to score in every inning but the fifth, finishing with a six-run effort in the top of the seventh.
Bruce Dugmore and Wyatt Cox had extra-base hits in the game. Dugmore laced two doubles and Cox hit his first home run of the year.
Emery (2-7, 0-1 2A East) will host San Juan (8-4, 2-2 2A East) on Tuesday in a 2A East matchup.
