The Skittles OHV Club organized a memorial ride to the head of the Des Bee Dove Trail following the funeral of club member and leader Mark H. Williams on Saturday.

After the dedication of the grave, each member placed a package of Skittles on the casket and then boarded their OHV’s for the ride. When they reached the trailhead, the group announced the changing of the trail name to the Mark H. Pathfinder Trail in memory of the trail founder and instigator.

“As a point of pride, Mark H. knew the area of Emery County better than anyone you will ever meet and was pleased to share his knowledge with anyone willing to listen,” loved ones shared in his obituary. “He was the perfect tour guide, leading you from the expansive desert trails to the highest mountain peaks.”

Williams authored of “Utah’s Scenic San Rafael,” a guidebook of The Swell, filled with his own photographs on nearly every page. This book guides adventurers to the many canyons and special places of interest in the area.

“The opening of the Des Bee Dove Trail in 2018 was his most recent accomplishment,” his family shared. “This was a process taking over five years of hard work and involving many volunteers. The opening of this OHV trail included, but not limited to, much time spent planning, submitting documentation, grants and trail building.”

A sign/monument with the new name will be placed at the trailhead in the near future.
