East Carbon residents woke up to the sound of sirens at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday morning after a house fire erupted. According to East Carbon/Sunnyside Fire Chief Gene Madrid the blaze was so intense and out of control that it spread quickly to a second home.

“One home was somewhat vacant and the family of the other home made it out safely,” Madrid explained. “By the time we reached the scene, the homes were totally engulfed.”

Due to the size of the blaze, Madrid requested that Wellington and Price City Fire departments respond as well. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and a full investigation is underway. Both homes were claimed a total loss.
