Press Release
The Diamond Divas 10U softball team finished out their 2015 season with a championship win in the 10U silver bracket at the Desert Fall Championship in St. George on Nov. 6 and 7.
After coming out slow in pool play on Friday, the Divas rallied back on Saturday to take on some tough teams. After three wins and one loss in bracket play, the Divas moved on to play in the championship game against the Southern Utah Blue Rebels, to whom they lost earlier in bracket play. Because the Rebels were undefeated in bracket play, the Divas had to beat them twice in the championship to secure the win.
The Divas came out fired up in their first game of the championship, putting runs on the board early in the first inning, and hot bats followed through the whole championship. Strong at bats by Ambree Jones, Jenna Richards, Mollie Horsley and Jordan McKinnon put the team in the lead early on in both games. Great defensive plays by Richards, Reese Ardohain, Madelyn Fawcett, Haven Byerly and Gabby Vasquez kept the Divas in the lead as the innings went on. Gracie Oveson, Andee Ferderber and Kylan Sorenson had great at bats with crucial RBIs in both games to keep the pressure on the Rebels. The Divas fought on hard late into the night taking the first Championship game 5-3, forcing an “if” game for the championship. Though tired and cold, the girls never let up, coming out with amazing hits and incredible defensive plays to win the championship 6-1. The team notched a total of 52 strikeouts over the two days between four pitchers; McKinnon with 25, Byerly with 15, Sorenson with 10 and Ardohain with two.
The Diamond Divas finished off the last few months of their season with a total of four second-place finishes, and one first-place championship, wrapping up a great season for this first year 10U team. The Divas would like to thank all of their fans and sponsors for helping to make this such a successful year.
