Carbon Cross Country runner Garrett Marsing continues to cruise as he heads to the state tournament Wednesday.  He easily placed first overal in the Region 12 meet last week. Both the boy’s and girl’s teams finished fourth and qualified for the trip.

Marsing finished with a personal best time of 15:46. Coach Telisse Allen said that she had him back off and treat it more like a good training run.

Trey Richardson was the next Carbon runner to cross the finish line in 13th place. Drew Jones placed 21st, just 48 seconds after Richardson. Andrew Gagnon placed 24th, JW Broadbear finished 25th and Dallen and Kyle Quinton each finished the race. All of the aforementioned runners will return next season.

On the girl’s side of the team, Emily Broadbear led the way for Carbon and placed 8th. Her main sport this fall has been soccer, so she was unable to put in much team training for cross country, but helped out when she could. Allen said it shows her natural running talent.

At the Region 12 meet Giovanna Chiara finished 11th, Zahara Rossi 13th and Sara Ohlwiler, Abbi Powell and Ambrie Reid finished as well. Chiara and Powell are the team’s two seniors.

Coach Allen is expecting a top 10 finish for both squads this Wednesday at the state meet. The meet will take place at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.
