The Carbon High basketball team routed Emery 71-54 on Friday night in Price.

The Dinos opened up a 13-point lead after the first quarter, outscoring the Spartans 18-5.

Carbon head coach Jeff Cisneros credited his teams speed and athleticism for the early outburst.

“We were running up and down the floor, just out running Emery really,” Cisneros said. “That’s our strength. We’re not a big team, so we have to use our speed and quickness to get up and down the floor.”

The Dinos continued to run circles around the Spartans as they won the second and third quarters 16-8 and 23-16, respectively.

Carbon used a balanced scoring attack that saw 11 players score throughout the game. Derek Young lead the Dinos with 12 points and Jordan Blanc added 11. Taje Richardson and Tanner Gagnon each scored nine points for the Dinos.

Dallon Cologie scored a game-high 23 points for Emery, and Jordan Cox followed with 10 points.

Despite his displeasure with allowing Emery to outscore his team 25-15 in the fourth quarter, Cisneros praised his team’s effort.

“I’m extremely pleased with the way our guys played,” Cisneros said. “I thought we played hard for at least three quarters of the game… defensively and offensively we were in control of the basketball game. Our team is working hard, and we’re getting better game in and game out.”

Cisneros said he was also pleased with the team’s ball movement and willingness to share.

“I think that if you looked at our scoring tonight we have five or six guys that are all bunched together, and that’s a great team effort,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of people tell me how well we’re playing together, and that’s a great [compliment] to these kids. That’s their character, and that’s a great thing for them to know: keep working hard together and you’ll get it done together.”

Carbon improved to 5-2 on the season. The Dinos host Uintah Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.

Emery dropped to 2-4 and next hosts Beaver at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The game was broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 and will rebroadcast throughout the coming weeks.
