For the second year in a row, the Springville Red Devils upended the Carbon Dinos in both teams’ season opener, this time by a score of 16-1.
After Springville scored two runs in the top of the first, the Dinos responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Chase Morgan scooted home for the home team’s only run of the game. Carbon managed just two hits in the game, both singles, off the bats of Collin Lewis and Ty Anderson, both sophomores.
Head coach Jeff Cisneros used five pitchers in the game, with Zac Bradley earning the loss after giving up two earned runs in an inning pithed. He also walked three batters.
Leading 3-1 entering the top of the third, Springville scored six runs in the third and another six in the fifth to end the game after just five innings of play. Springville score its 16 runs on 11 hits.
Carbon (0-1, 0-0 Region 12) will take part in the Donnie Pymm First Pitch Classic this weekend in St. George. On Thursday, the Dinos will square off against Dixie and against Mountain Crest and Payson on Friday. Saturday’s opponents has yet to be determined.
