Dinos Fall in Five Set Thriller to Payson at Home

After coming off a five-set upset over undefeated North Sanpete, the Lady Dinos were unable to hold on to that momentum and dropped a close five-set match to the Payson Lions.

On Oct. 2, the Dinos headed into their toughest region match of the year as they hosted undefeated North Sanpete. The Dinos fought in a five-set thriller, sending North Sanpete home with its first region loss of the season. The Dinos won the match 31-29, 25-16, 20-25, 25-16 and 15-13.

Tuesday’s match ended in a different result as Payson came out on top, taking the match in the fifth and deciding set.
Senior Beth Child recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 29 digs, but it was not enough as Payson downed the Dinos in five sets (25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-15 and 13-15) Tuesday night on their home court.

Child led the offense with 12 kills, followed by teammate Jordan Scoggins with 10. Middle blocker Celeste Smith was close behind recording nine kills of her own. Senior setter Lauren Rice paced the Dino offense and put up 43 assists on the night.

The Dinos defense was led by senior libero Katee Martinez who recorded a season high of 35 digs. Martinez was followed by teammates Child and Taylor Oliver who tallied 29 and 18 digs, respectively.

Carbon celebrated seven seniors before the match. These seniors include Aubree Robinett, Beth Child, Celeste Smith, Karina Ivory, Katee Martinez, Lauren Rice and Taylor Oliver.

The Dinos will play their final home match of the season on Thursday against Richfield, first serve will be at 6:30 p.m.
