After winning their first game of the Central Tournament in Colorado on Thursday, 55-26, against Palisade, Colo., the Carbon Dinos fell to both Cortez and Grand Junction, respectively, to end the tourney with a 1-2 record.

Against Cortez, the Dinos couldn’t overcome a slow first half in which they scored just 12 points. Derek Hillam had his best game of the year thus far, pouring in 20 points and grabbing 13 boards. Ryan Gagon also had a double double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Cortez took the game 58-47.

In the final game of the tournament, Grand Junction withstood a Dino comeback, taking the hotly contested tuneup, 52-50.

Hillam and Gagon again anchored the Dinos on offense, with both scoring 13 points apiece. Colin Lewis nailed three threes in the game en route to nine points. Slow quarters in both the first (8) and third (5) quarters doomed the Dinos in the game.

Carbon (1-3, 0-0 Region 14) will host Richfield on Tuesday night before making the trip to Castle Dale on Wednesday evening to take on the Emery Spartans. The Carbon Emery game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
