Looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Union Cougars back on Jan. 9, the Carbon Dinos got a bit of payback on Wednesday night, not only getting the huge 74-68 overtime win, but also pushing the Cougars to second place in the Region 14 standings.

After an even first half, Carbon built a lead going into the final quarter. Union, though, rallied from a 57-49 deficit to take a 62-60 lead with under five seconds remaining. But a inbounds pass from Ryan Gagon to Derek Hillam, who gave it right back to a cutting Gagon found itself going through the hoop, tying the game at 62 and also sending the game to overtime.

The Dinos built a nine-point lead in overtime before coasting to the win.

Hillam led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Ty Anderson was right behind with a career-high 18 points. Ryan Gagon and Colin Lewis were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Carbon (6-15, 5-6 Region 14) has just one game remaining on its schedule, a Friday home contest against American Leadership Academy (9-13, 2-9 Region 14). Currently, Carbon and Juab sit in a tie for fourth place with identical 5-6 region records. A win against ALA and a loss by Juab against Delta Friday night would put the Dinos in sole possession of fourth place. Carbon, though, can finish no worse than fifth. The top six teams will advance to next week’s 3A First Round.
