Dinos Nab Region 14 Championship

The Carbon Dinos wrapped up their Region 14 schedule in grand fashion on Friday, beating the Juab Wasps 6-3 to claim the region championship and a number one seed in next weekend’s 3A Playoffs.

Carbon will host the first and seconds rounds in Helper beginning May 5.

Cody Lowe went the distance on the mound for his team high sixth win, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He also struck out a season high nine batters.Lowe has registered 17 strikeouts in his last two outings combined.

Lowe also went 2-3 from the plate with a double and a single with an RBI. Zac Bradley added four more hits in the game with four singles. Braxton Bennett knocked in two runs, going 1-4.

The Dinos jumped all over Juab starter Dawson Ostler, tagging him for five runs on seven hits in just two innings pitched. Leading 5-3, Carbon added its final run in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Carbon (16-6, 9-1 Region 15) lost to the Wasps on Tuesday to slip into a tie atop the region standings, setting up a winner-take-all matchup on Friday.

With the win and the Region 14 Championship, Carbon will play Region 15’s number six seed, which sees a current tie between North Sanpete and Emery, at a time to be determined on Saturday, May 5 at the Helper Legion field. Both North Sanpete and Emery play on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season.
