Jarod Lessar threw for a score and added two more on the ground in the Carbon Dinos’ road victory over Duchesne Thursday night.
Both teams couldn’t get anything going early until Lessar hooked up with Garrett Blanc on a 30-yard touchdown throw and catch late in the first quarter to get Carbon on the board. The Dino defense kept Duchesne at bay throughout the game, with the lone score for the Eagles coming late in the fourth quarter.
By halftime, the Dinos led 12-0 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Lessar, which was set up on a long reception by Braxton Jones deep in the Eagle territory.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Lessar added a 6-yard TD run with just under nine minutes to go in the game to run the score to 20-0. Duchesne scored shortly thereafter to cut the lead to 20-8 after a successful two-point conversion. Carbon’s defense held firm in the last few minutes in the game to secure the win.
The Dinos currently sit at 3-0 on the young season and will host North Sanpete next Friday before region action begins Sept. 19 at Grantsville. Duchesne has lost two straight games after its 48-game winning streak was snapped last week against North Summit, the longest such streak in Utah history.
