The Carbon Dinos rebounded from an opening round defeat to Dixie on Friday to finish their annual trip to St. George with a record of 2-1. The Dinos beat Payson and Judge Memorial and dropped a game to Bear River in a high-scoring affair.
The Dinos’ game only went five innings against the Flyers on Friday, dropping the game 10-0. Carbon didn’t muster a hit in the game and struck out 11 times.
Game two on Friday was completely different than the first as the Dinos exploded for 14 runs on 13 hits to outlast Payson, 14-10. Carbon scored six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the win. Collin Lewis had four RBIs on two hits, including a double. Zac Bradley added two more hits and three RBIs. Jadon Robertson legged out a triple and a double with two RBIs. Nate Olson got the win on the mound after going 3 2/3 innings of one-earned run ball. He also struck out four batters.
The team then split a pair of games on Saturday, beginning with a 7-5 win over Judge Memorial. Robertson and Cesar Laya were big for the Dinos, accounting for four of Carbon’s seven runs batted in. Cody Lowe was dominant on the mound, allowing no earned runs and just three hits in four innings pitched. The Dinos scored all of their runs in the first four innings and withstood a four-run fourth by Judge to earn the win.
In the final game of the weekend, Bear River scored three runs in the seventh to take the come-from-behind win against Carbon, 13-12. The Dinos had a season-high 16 hits in the game, led by Lowe with four, going 4-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Laya was right behind with three hits, including a triple and a double en route to three RBIs. Robertson also added three hits, including a double, with two RBIs.
Carbon (2-3, 0-0 Region 14) will travel to Mountain View (2-1, 0-0 Region 10) on Tuesday before a tilt at Grand on Thursday.
