The Carbon Dinos ended a successful 2018 season with a fifth-place finish at the state tournament at the Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville.
On day one of the event, Carbon held the third spot and were only three strokes behind second place Judge Memorial. The second day of the match was tougher for the Dinos to score low and they slipped into the in fifth position.
Senior Carson Martines lead the Dinos in the two-day tournament with a score of 156. With a crowd of parents and players around the 18th hole, Carson ended his high school golf career with a memorable chip-in shot for eagle.
Brady Gagon was in second place with a score of 158, followed by Nick Olson with 162 and Kaden Slavensky with with 164. Jordan Penovich posted a 174 and Tyler Yoklavich finished with 189.
There were many highlights this season for the Dinos. They accomplished a top five finish for the inaugural season of coach Brett Johnson as well as being undefeated in Region 14 with four players in the top 10 and winning the Eastern Utah Cup.
