The Carbon Dinos faced Desert Hills in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Baseball Tournament Thursday at Utah Valley University.
The Dinos were sent to the loser’s bracket following a tough 2-0 loss to the number one team in 3A. Desert Hills pitcher Baden Powell, who entered the game with just one loss on the season, kept the Carbon offense at bay with only three total hits allowed. Bryce Blackburn had two of those hits. Cole Fossat had the other. Starting pitcher Jarod Lessar pitched well on the mound, giving up just two runs in nearly six innings of work.
The Dinos will take on Spanish Fork 11 a.m. Friday in the loser’s bracket. Carbon still has a shot at earning a trip to the championship game, but would need three-straight wins, including a win against Spanish Fork, to get there.
