The Carbon Dinos took on the first round of the Pepsi Classic Tournament on Thursday. Carbon held off a late charge and won the game 61-55.
Carbon led at the end of the first, earning 21 points to North Summit’s 19. A strong second quarter propelled the Dinos as they outscored their opponents 16-6, giving them a 37-25 lead at the half.
A rally from North Summit in the third saw them ending the quarter 15-9 over the Dinos. Carbon shut out the game in the fourth to earn their first win of the tournament, 61-55.
Cole Fossat led the Dinos with 18 points followed by Brad Williams with 16. Four three-point shots from Williams and two from Fossat added to Carbon’s momentum.
The team will face South Summit today at 3:30 p.m. at Ben Lemond High School before challenging Ogden High and St. Joseph on Saturday.
