The Carbon Dinos concluded their preseason schedule over the weekend at the San Juan Slugfest, facing fellow 3A foes San Juan, Summit Academy and Grand. The Dinos returned home with a 2-1 record.
In the first of two games on Friday, Carbon took on San Juan, beating the host team 15-1 in just three innings.
Ty Anderson went 4-5 with three RBIs, including a double. Right behind Anderson was Zac Bradley (2-3 with RBIs, 3B), Collin Lewis (2-3 with an RBI, 2B) and Cody Lowe (1-4 with 3 RBIs, 3B). Lowe also pitched all three innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six batters. After scoring five runs in the first inning, Carbon broke the game wide open in the second with eight runs.
It was a much different matchup in game two on Friday as the Dinos held on against late-charging Summit Academy for the 4-2 win.
Lowe was again stellar at the plate, knocking in a team-high three RBIs on 3-3 from the plate, including a double. Triton Abeyta tossed six innings of two-hit baseball to pick up the win. Leading 4-0 in the sixth, Carbon allowed two runs in seventh before closing out the game.
Bradley and Lewis took to the mound against Grand on Saturday to attempt the three-game sweep at the tournament.
Bradley tossed four innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Lewis followed up with two innings of one-hit ball to keep the game close. Down 2-0 entering the seventh, the Dinos added one run before Grand retired the side to take the 2-1 win. Cesar Laya had two of Carbon’s five total hits in the game, going 2-4. Jaxon Leonard, Lowe and Lewis had the other hits in the game, with Lowe’s base hit going for extra bases with a double.
Carbon (5-4, 0-0 Region 14) will kick off Region 14 action this week with games at home on Tuesday against Providence Hall and a road game at the Patriots on Friday.
