Emery County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

Sgt. Dusty Butler retired on March 30, 2018 after 22 years of dedicated service to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Emery County. He was hired by ECSO in 1996 when he was only 18 years old. He worked for a short time in Dispatch before attending Corrections Academy and has worked in the jail since that time. Dusty served as Corrections Corporal and was later promoted to Jail Sergeant. He has been in charge of the jail since late 2010.

There is so much that goes on behind the scenes for the safety and welfare of inmates, and Dusty has fulfilled his responsibilities well with very limited staff through the years. He has been first to step up on special projects, transports and extraditions. He was also in charge of court security and security for the Sheriff’s Office facility. Dusty was a Taser Instructor and Glock Armorer, and spent countless hours at the gun range helping prepare for qualification shoots. Since 2007, Dusty has served as photo journalist for ECSO, taking thousands of photos and producing amazing slideshows that have been presented at conferences throughout the state.

Dusty is the true definition of public servant. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the Orangeville Fire Department for many years. You can also see him at local dance recitals, pageants, plays and sporting events taking photos and videos that he shares with the public. Many parents in our communities have come to rely on him to provide a photo journal of their children’s events. Dusty was recognized by local newspapers and by the program Beyond the Badge for his efforts in obtaining and restoring a camp trailer and stocking it with food for an Emery County man who was living in a car and facing a miserable winter.

In his personal and professional life, Dusty’s hard work and dedication go beyond what is expected. His knowledge, experience and dedication are irreplaceable at ECSO and he will be missed.

Thank you Sgt. Dusty Butler and good luck with your future endeavors. If you see Dusty in the community, please take a moment to thank him for his service.
