The Division of Wildlife Resources will host a “Meet the Bats Night” with a public event in Southeastern Utah. The event is free of charge and everyone is cordially invited to attend. Anyone who has ever had an interest in bats will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see and even touch as many as five different bat species.

Participants will meet at the Crescent Junction exit on Saturday, July 30 at 5:45 p.m. Crescent Junction is located about 20 miles east of Green River on I-70. From there, the group will travel another 20 miles to the location where bats will be captured, identified, and shown to event attendees.

The road to the capture location is best traveled in a high clearance vehicle. Absent such a vehicle, participants may ride along with DWR personnel. It’s recommended that participants bring a headlamp or flashlight, a lawn chair, warm clothing, snacks and insect repellent. Those who drive their own vehicle may leave the group at any time.

Bat species are expected to include the canyon bat, pallid bat, California myotis, silver-haired bat, and hoary bat. Pre-registration is required as inclement weather may require cancellation of the event. Call Brent Stettler at 435-613-3707 for questions and pre-registration.
