The Eagle Scout program is one that is completed by all Boy Scouts. Mike Urbanik, local citizen, spoke to the commissioners about his Eagle Scout project at the commission meeting Wednesday evening. When trying to decide what he would do for his project, Urbanik took some time to think about the wants and needs of the community, coming up with idea for comfort kits. The comfort kits will be provided in age groups, starting with children ages 0-3 and going up to 14 years of age.
The kits will include blankets, stuffed animals, coloring books and more. The age group depends on what exactly is included in each comfort kit. Urbanik posted his project on Facebook, asking the community for donations. The locals responded well, dropping off donations to Urbanik’s home.
These comfort kits will be donated to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, and the officers will hand them out in times of crisis and need. In total, there are around 94 kits.
“It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot from it,” stated Urbanik.
This project was a huge growing experience, according to the Boy Scout. He stated that he is glad to be able to give them to the sheriff’s office, and that a lot of the credit for the idea goes to his mom.
Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood wanted Urbanik to know that he was very grateful.
“I am proud of his accomplishment with his Eagle Scout project. It will be good for a lot kids,” said sheriff Wood.
