Matthew Murchison, principal solo euphonium with River City Brass in Pittsburgh,В Pennsylvania, performed with Eastern Utah Wind Symphony Saturday night in the Price Civic Auditorium. It was Murchison’s second appearanceВ as soloist with the symphony following a performance back in 2002.

Under the direction of Gregory Benson, USU Eastern Vice Chancellor andВ associateВ professor, the symphony performed seven numbers overall. Murchison performed “Crandall Canyon,” a local work by Daniel Thrower commemorating the 2007 Crandall Canyon Mine disaster. “Crandall Canyon” was commissioned and premiered by the Eastern Utah Wind Symphony in the months following the tragic disaster.

Following the symphony’s performance, Murchison sold his first album “Everyone But Me” in the hall outside the auditorium.

“I enjoy what I do,” he said. “I’m happy to get all of this support everywhere I perform.”
