Emery County Commissioners granted permission Tuesday for Marilyn Collard to teach an annual lifeguard certification class during the holidays.

The class was slated for Dec. 21 – 29 at the Emery County Aquatic Center. The program was designed to get high school kids certified so they would be available to fill part-time positions when the Aquatic Center needed lifeguards.

Commissioner J.R. Nelson said, “Marilyn Collard is not only certified, but she is very good at teaching these classes.”

Interested parties should contact the Aquatic Center for details.

Notes:

  • A small group of citizens expressed concerns about conditions at the Aquatic Center. The group said it was concerned about the automatic door not working, and Commissioners said they would immediately look into the problem. Other complaints included a perceived lack of lifeguards and concerns about water temperatures negatively affecting people with arthritis.
  • Commissioners approved a proposal to offer a $100 discount on Aquatic Center annual passes to all County employees.
