Residents of East Carbon-Sunnyside now have access to a public learning center. On Sept. 4, Rick and Sharon Lee officially opened the doors of the newly revamped EC Learning and Resource Center. The building is home to a lending library, computer lab and activity hall.
According to the Lee’s, they wanted to provide a facility full of resources not offered by any other business in the East Carbon-Sunnyside area. “Of course we have a library and free computer lab,” Sharon explained. “But we also have a room that can be rented out to the public for activities, complete with a full kitchen.”
The owners hope that the EC Learning and Resource Center will be a gathering place for locals. Weekly activities will be hosted including football viewing parties and movie nights. “We will watch Thursday and Monday night football on the big screen downstairs,” Rick stated. “We have access to every NFL game this season and will be here on Sundays beginning at 10 a.m. each week. We will have snacks for sale and encourage everyone to come join in the fun. We will also host a movie night beginning Sept. 12.”
Educational classes are currently in the works. Sharon encourages anyone with a talent or interest to share their knowledge by conducting a brief class at the center. Classes such as sign language may soon be available.
The center houses several books that are available for public use. Because the center is a non-profit organization, donations of books, money and services are appreciated.
