Emery High School participated in the Utah State Large Group Competition Friday at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork.

Teams qualify for state at the Region level by getting superior ratings on all of their pieces.

Emery’s Concert Choir received three 1-minus marks singing, “Rockin’ Jerusalem”, “Jamaican Market Place” and “The Finale From The Gondoliers.”

The Women’s Choir received a 2-plus and two 1-minus marks, singing “The Storm is Passing Over”, “The Mouse Madrigal” and “Ding a Ding a Ding.”

The Men’s Choir received two 1-minus marks and a 1 singing “Turn Around Look at Me”, “I’m Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing” and “Cripple Creek.”

The scores are almost unheard of considering the limited number of students the director has to choose from at Emery High to make up the choirs.

As director David Bird announced the scores to his students, he expressed, “I love you guys. Thanks for your hard work.”

A special thanks goes to EHS Choir Pianist Merilee Cox and guest pianist Angela Pulli.
