The 11-year-old Carbon All-Stars took first place in the Southern Utah Cal Ripken State Tournament on Saturday.

The team faced a tough Beaver team but secured a 10-3 win in the championship game. Beaver beat Carbon in the first game, forcing a second game in which Carbon came out with solid defense behind their pitchers and put a halt to Beaver’s speedy offense. Beaver was unable to stop Carbon’s hard-hitting offense, giving Carbon the lead. The team put runs on the board throughout the game.

Jacob Robertson started on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing just two runs. Hayden Tallerico came in to finish the last two innings and allowed just one run.

Carbon will now head to the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament in Vernal, which begins July 20

Players on the team are Kobe Cruz, Rylan Hart, Payton Kimber, Paxton Kimber, Dallen O’Neil, Devin Smith, Michael Schmitz, Jacob Robertson, Hayden Tallerico and Jacob Vasquez. The team is coached by Matt Tallerico, JR O’Niel and Gregg Schmitz.
