The Emery Lady Spartans walloped Piute on Friday to send off their seniors with a huge 22-1 win. A day before, the Lady Spartans were handed a narrow 3-2 loss by league-leading Grand. The Piute win marked the end of region play for Emery and its first region win.
On Thursday, the Lady Red Devils scored two runs in the top of the seventh to get the come-from-behind victory. Emery scored its two runs in the third and held the 2-1 lead into the seventh. Kaytlyn Farley went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on nine hits. Addy Healy had the only RBI on the day for the Lady Spartans. She had a single as did three others for four total team hits.
The offense then let loose on Friday, pounding Piute in just three innings. Emery began things in the first inning with 12 runs. The team then scored 10 more in the second. After Piute failed to score in the top of the third, the mercy rule kicked in, ending the game.
Healy’s hot bat continued as she went 3-3 with a single, double and triple en route to four RBIs. Jessica Mason knocked in three more, going 2-4 with a double and single. Jacie Huntington was the other Lady Spartan with multiple hits in the game with two. Madison McCandless allowed just one run on three hits in three innings for the win.
Emery (6-16, 1-8 2A East) will conclude its season this week with games at Carbon (13-6, 4-2 Region 12) on Tuesday and at South Sevier (13-10, 6-4 2A Central) Thursday.
