With losses inВ consolationВ games in the 2A and 3A State Playoffs, Emery Boys and Carbon Girls were sent home packing yesterday finishing the 2011-12 basketball season.

On the heels of a dominating performance in the first round against Ogden, the Lady Dinos lost consecutive games at the Dixie Center, the last a hard-fought contest against Morgan 55-50. Carbon entered the tournament as a #1 seed. The Dinos lost Thursday to Judge Memorial 55-39 before yesterday’s loss against Morgan in one of two consolation games.

Miranda Averett was the lone bright spot for the Lady Dinos, averaging 12.5 points per game in St. George. Averett averaged 14.5 ppg on the season, third highest in 3A.

Carbon finished the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 17-6 and 9-1 in Region 12 play.

The Emery Spartans went down the same road as the Lady Dinos. The Spartans won an exciting first-round game versus Enterprise 62-57 at Snow College to punch their ticket to the Sevier Valley Center for the 2A Tournament. Emery then squared off against South Summit on Thursday in the second round but couldn’t overcome a slow first half and fell 56-47. The Spartans only scored 23 points in the first half, then put up 24 in the fourth.

With the loss, Emery was forced into a consolation game against Wasatch Academy on Friday. Despite being undersized drastically, the Spartans rode hot-shooting Dallon Cologie to take a 34-33 lead going into halftime. Cologie had 17 points in the first half and led all scorers in the game with 26 overall. Cologie averaged 19.3 ppg in the playoffs and 16.5 on the season.В The Spartans were outscored in the fourth quarter 16-6. Emery lost the game 66-54.

The Spartans end the season with an overall record of 11-12 and 4-4 in Region 15 play.
