Emery County Commissioners approved a new, three-person Planning Commission Board at Tuesday’s meeting in Castle Dale.

Laura Rasmussen was approved as the citizen’s representative to the new board.

After a relatively long debate, Commissioners approved $4,000 for lobbyists who worked on State Bill 76: Distribution of Revenues Collected Under the Local Sales and Use Tax Act.

The Commissioners also approved various yearly contract renewals with the Forest Service, Association of Local Governments, and one for weed control on federal lands.

Sheriff’s representatives reported a fatal traffic accident on Cedar Mountain over the Easter weekend. Representatives were encouraged that the accident was the only major incident during a holiday weekend in which Emery County’s population more than doubles.

Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth encouraged everyone in attendance to support the Miss Emery County Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Millsite Golf Course. All proceeds will be used to support Emery County’s representatives at the state level.
