The Emery County Fair is just around the corner and much of county’s commission meeting on Tuesday was focused on finalizing details for the upcoming event.
At the meeting, bids were opened for cleaning and sound crew for the fair. The bid for cleaning was awarded to the Emery High Spardettes and the sound crew bid was given to Curtain Call, Amanda Bennett. A contract with Greg Hansen as a vocal judge was also approved. This contest lists as high prize a recording contract with Hansen in his professional studio. Action on the contract with Chelsie Hightower for her services as a dance judge and workshop director was postponed pending further clarification on insurance demands of the contract. A fee of the $250 was approved for the Emery County Community Theatre for a production number on Thursday afternoon.
The fair is the first week of August and is hosting big names this year, such as a concert headlined by Collin Raye.
Other items of discussion included a request to sign the Four Corners Area Plan and budget. After considerable discussion about mental health issues that could result in homicide or suicide and the sheriff department’s transportation help for these patients, the signing was delayed until the next commission meeting.
Emergency Watershed Protection Adobe Sediment Basin Project, an amendment to the Millsite Dam Rehabilitation Project, and the stilling basin for Huntington Canyon south debris basin were all approved. An extension of time for the agreement of Joe’s Valley boat ramp and parking lot was ratified. A temporary use agreement between the county and PacifiCorp for use of county land as a staging area to begin the pipeline from Deer Creek Mine to the Huntington Power Plant was approved. All other permits have been received.
The Emery County Archives Department received approval to apply for a grant to locate, restore, clean and/or repair headstones of World War 1 veterans. The lease agreement between the State Of Utah and Emery County for Adult Probation and Parole needed renewal and was approved by the commissioners. Election judges for the August 2017 election was also approved. A tourism grant was approved for Castle Valley Small Engine Mechanic to be built on Main Street in Castle Dale.
The highlight of the meeting was the awarding of a NettWorth Financial Scholarship to Mason Moss. Vickie Anderson, surviving spouse of the company’s owner, presented the award to Moss with many commendations and congratulations. She reported over 300 applications were received and only 20 awarded.
