During the Emery County Commission meeting, which took place at its regularly scheduled Tuesday afternoon time, the commissioners awarded county staff with safety Visa cards.

One card went to a full time employee, one to a part time employee and two were given as safety incentive awards. The names were drawn by Commissioner Lynn Sitterud out of bowls. Two Olsen’s, a Keele and a Riley were all awarded during the meeting, though none were present to pick up their card at the time.

“Hopefully we can keep working safely so we can continue to do this,” Commissioner Sitterud stated.

The commissioners also discussed a cooperative agreement between the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR), the Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation and Emery County for maintenance of the marina parking areas at Joe’s Valley Reservoir. It was explained that the DWR and Division of State Parks and Rec each pay up to a certain amount for this and invoices will be sent to each.

Commissioner Sitterud also explained that the agreement needed to be submitted prior to the meeting and was signed and sent out. The purpose of the item at the meeting was simply to ratify it, which was approved by the commission.

Finally, during individual reports, Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk briefly discussed the San Rafael Classic Triathlon that is hosted yearly by Emery County Search and Rescue. He stated that they were not planning on hosting the triathlon in 2020. However, those that had been rescued in the past by search and rescue heard of this and were devastated. These individuals decided to help on the Wasatch Front. From there, Sheriff Funk stated that they will see what has been raised and move forward.
