The annual Emery County Fair played host to a doubles horseshoe tournament on Saturday afternoon, drawing 17 teams to Castle Dale to compete.
“It was a great turnout with new faces,” said Rochelle Badback, the tournament organizer. The event drew five teams from San Juan County, one of which secured a third place finish.
Brothers Chad and Cody Allen of Emery County took home the win followed by Tommy Elkface and Rhett Popejoy. Another brother duo, Jerome and Alford Stash, both from San Juan County, ended the tournament in third.
Next up for horseshoe competitors will by the Carbon County Fair tournament on Aug. 26 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the double elimination tournament kicking off at 11 a.m. Cost is $20 per team.
