Bailey Rasmussen scored a season-high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to spur the Lady Spartans to a 49-47 win over the North Sevier Wolves Tuesday night.
The back and forth affair began when North Sevier jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. By the end of the first, the Wolves held a 14-6 lead. The Lady Spartans would then go on a 22-7 run spanning the second and third quarters before North Sevier battled back with a 16-6 run to close out the third at 37-34.
Both teams held small leads in the fourth, but Emery would pull ahead for good, 42-41 on a Baylor Griffin runner with 2:50 remaining in the game. The Spartans increased their lead to six, 49-43 on a bucket by Ashton Bell, but North Sevier made it very interesting with 10 seconds remaining when Peyton Torgersen hit a three pointer to pull the Wolves within two, 49-47. After a Cassidy Labrum missed free throw and advancing the ball passed half court, North Sevier had a chance to tie or go for the win with three seconds remaining in the game. The Lady Spartans defended the play well and the Wolves were unable to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.
Camry Johnson was the other Lady Spartan in double figures with 10. Bell, who was instrumental down the stretch for Emery, finished with nine points. Griffin chipped in six.
Tuesday’s win marked the 12th straight time Emery has beaten North Sevier. The Lady Spartans last lost to the Wolves Dec. 3, 2003.
Emery (6-4, 2-0 Region 15) will travel to Monroe on Thursday for a matchup with another undefeated team in Region 15, South Sevier (10-3, 2-0 Region 15).
