With their combined score just 5.5 points above cross-county rivals the Dinos, the Emery High Spartans walked away with a seventh-place finish at the Juab Invitational on Friday in Nephi.
The Lady Dinos, who have made headlines during their season with a string of first-place finishes, settled for fifth at the event while Emery’s boys’ team grabbed a sixth. Carbon boys managed ninth while Emery girls finished tenth.
Emery opened in the girls’ sprint medley relay, finishing fifth. Braiden Ivie put up more points for the Spartans, grabbing second in the 100 meters in the boys’ contest. Erin Hurst also finished fifth for Emery in the 1600 meters.
The Emery boys’ team for the 4×100 grabbed fifth for the Black and Gold while Spartan Logan Cox finished second in the 400 meters. Ivie returned in the 200 meters to take third while Cox secured fifth.
Chase Christiansen also grabbed fifth in the 3200 meters while Lady Spartan Makieya Bertuzzi finished fifth in the javelin. Chase Jewkes finished fourth in the javelin. Ty Mecham bought more Spartan points with his fourth-place finish in the shot put.
Carbon represented in the 4×100 as the girls’ team managed fourth place while Lady Dinos Shannon Baker and Sadie Crompton finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters. Freshman Grace Boradbear finished in fifth for the Dinos in the 800 meters.
Broadbear returned in the 3200 meters, this time managing fifth while the girls’ team finished third in the 4×400.
Derek Hillam grabbed a first-place finish for the Dinos in the long jump, clearing over 19 feet. Caitlyn Dimick scored another first for the Blue and White in the javelin, where her final came in at 117 feet.
