Having scored just 28 points through five games, the Emery Spartans scored 19 against Grantsville Friday night. The Spartans, though, gave up 42 to remain winless after six games on the season.

A botched snap on an Emery punt led to a Cowboy touchdown on the Spartan’s opening possession. A five-yard touchdown run by Tyler Olsen got Emery to within one point after an unsuccessful PAT in the opening period. After another Grantsville TD to push the score to 14-6, Zach Jorgensen found a wide open TJ Laycock on a simple pass over the middle for a 21-yard touchdown in the second to bring the Spartans within two points at the break, 14-12.

Granstville went on to score 28 points in the third quarter with two touchdowns coming via interceptions, which were returned for scores. Spartan running back Cameron Petersen scored on a 28-yard scamper in the fourth to get Emery to 19 points on the night.

Emery (0-6, 0-3 3A North) will travel to 3A’s top team Judge Memorial (6-1, 3-0 3A North) this Thursday for a matchup with the Bulldogs. Judge Memorial upended Carbon Friday night 48-7 to coast to its fifth straight win.
