Emery High Cross Country Teams Earn Their Way to State Competition

The Emery High cross country team competed at region at Grand High School on Tuesday. Both teams had great success at the meet, each earning their way to the state competition. The boy’s team finished in second and the girl’s rounded out the day in third.

Erine Hurst paved the way for the girls, finishing the race at Moab Golf Club in 21:09 for an overall third place finish. Tarryn Parkins followed Hurst as fourth overall with a time of 21:35. Laura Burke came in third for Emery and 20th overall with a time of 24:15. The Lady Spartans finished the day with 76 points, just behind North Sevier and San Juan.

Another third place overall finish was earned for Emery by Ty Funk. Funk ran the course in 18:07 for the boys. Close behind was McKoy Christiansen and Daryl Guymon at 18:33 and 18:53, respectively. Joseph Spendlove, Wyatt Cox, Alex Stilson and Beau Ivie helped round out the boy’s second place finish in region. The team was narrowly beat out by San Juan.
