Emery High Cross Country Teams Finish 2014 Year at State Competition

The Emery High cross country teams competed in the state cross country meet on Wednesday at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City. Both teams had multiple runners compete and earn great times at the meet.

Sophomore Erin Hurst took home the top prize for the girl’s team, earning an overall fifth place finish with a time of 20:10. Sophomore Tarryn Parkins crossed the finish line next for the Spartans, finishing in 21:49 and 17th overall. Junior Lauren Burke was next for Emery, crossing the finish line in 24:12. The showing for the girls at the state competition landed them in ninth place as a team.

Freshman Ty Funk took the lead for the boy’s team on Wednesday with a finish of 18:12 and 28th overall. Following Funk was junior McKoy Christiansen with a time of 19:02 and sophomore Daryl Guymon with a time of 19:19. Close behind was sophomore Joseph Spendlove with a finish of 19:20. Junior Wyatt Cox rounded out the boy’s team with a 19:58 finish. The Spartans finished the competition in eleventh place overall.
