Girls’ golf, boys’ swim, Future Farmers of America milk quality judging and prepared public speaking all gleaned top honors at their various state competitions during the 2016-17 school year at Emery High. These individuals were honored at a special awards program at the school last week.
Members of the state champion boys’ swim team included Elijah Beagley, Allen Durrant, Brennan Durrant, Nate Gilbert, Daryl Guymon, Keldan Guymon, Gage Jensen, Jace Jorgensen, Deegan Minchey, Stuart Moss, Levi Olsen, Jayce Rudd, Garrett Stilson, Parker Stilson, Kai Valente, Jace Collard and Colton Wilson.
Kayla Winn, Raegan Sitterud, Lainee Jensen, Sydney Timothy, Sydnee Guymon, Sarah Swasey, Erin Oliverson, Taijah Price and Ploy Sakaew were members of the girls’ golf team, which took first at the state tournament after only four years of having a golf team at Emery High.
The FFA milk quality judging team, Dax Hall, Amanda Johansen, Aubreyanna Migliori and Presley Bringhurst, captured first place honors at the CDE judging competition and will represent Utah at the upcoming national competition in Indianapolis. The state winner in prepared public speaking, Riata Christiansen, will compete at the national convention in October as well.
Also recognized at the assembly was Ty Mecham, who recently set a new school record throwing the shotput a distance of 49.75 feet.
