The Emery High School rodeo team played host to the UHSRA rodeo over the weekend.

As the final performance began on Saturday evening, eight graduating seniors were given buckles by coaches Dawnette and Kevin Gordon. This year’s seniors are Jessie McElprang, Drake Weber, Jessica Fox, Shelby Murdock, Korby Christiansen, Caleb Rubio, Bret Olsen and Haylie Allred. The club also presented the coaches with a gift of appreciation.

Placing at the Emery rodeo was Kayson Jensen with second in the barebacks and Abbie McElprang with eighth in breakaway while team roping partners Cole Magnuson and Race Gordon finished eighth.

The Sevier rodeo team also hosted a rodeo in Salina on the same weekend. These were preference rodeos as each team only has two arenas. Placing in Salina were Jensen, second in barebacks, Baylee Jacobsen second, and Jessie McElprang sixth in breakaway roping.

Shooting sport competitions for these same rodeos were both hosted in Castle Dale. Carbon High’s Kagan Rhodes received a second and third in trap shooting. Emery Spartan Ruger Payne was third in trap shooting. In the light rifle competition, Rhodes placed third and fourth.

The junior shooting sport competitions took place at the same time as the high school. Ryter Ekker was first in both the Sevier and Emery in light rifle competitions. Kashley Rhodes was sixth and seventh and Shalako Rhodes was eighth and fifth. They are all members of the Emery junior high rodeo team.
