The Emery High Spartans took to the field on Tuesday, May 10 and competed in the Region 15 Track Championships with a victory that would have felled the Roman Empire. With the boys’ team finishing second with a point total of 145 and the girls’ team finishing fourth with 94, the school as a whole managed to bring home the first-place finish with a combined total of 239, 20 points above that of second-place Grand.
Spartan Erin Hurst took fist in the girls’ 3200 meters, while fellow teammate and senior Bayler Griffin brought home a first in the 100 meter event. Fellow senior Paytn Jeffs continued bringing home victories for Emery as she jumped her way to a first-place finish in the high jump.
Senior Tyler Olsen placed first in the boy’s high jump for Emery as well as in the long jump. Teammate Ty Mecham also took first in the boys’ shot put.
Other top five finishes from the meet include:
Ty Funk, fourth in the 3200 meters and second in the 800 meters. Camrey Johnson, fifth in 100 hurdles, fourth in the 300 hurdles and long jump as well as second in 300 meters. Logan Cox, second in the 100, 400 and 200 meters as well as third in the 100 meter. Tyler Olsen, fourth in the 100 meter. Both the girls’ and boys’ 4×100 team, each placing third. Morgan Hurdsman, fourth in the 400 meters. Ashton Dieli, second in the 300 meters and 300 hurdles. Darryll Guymon, fifth in the 300 meters. Bayler Griffin, second in the 200 meters. Erin Hurst, third in the 1600 meters. Chase Christiansen, second in the 1600 meters. Tiana Jensen, fourth in the 100 hurdles. Both boys’ and girls’ sprint medley relays and 4×400, fourth. Justin Jennings, second and in the high jump. Raymond Brazier, third in high jump and fourth in shot put as well as second in javelin followed by Chase Jewkes, fifth in javelin.
