Emery High Press Release

The Emery High School theatre department is proud to announce that the longest running improvisation troupe in Utah, Laughing Stock, will be performing at the Emery High Auditorium on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.  Laughing Stock performs skits, tiny plays, games and other hilarity similar to the TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” Laughing Stock has performed throughout Utah but has never been to Emery County before. The cost is $5 per person with children eight and under admitted for free.

The improvisation troupe will be coming to Emery High from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. that same day to do a workshop for the theatre classes on improv. Two of the students participating in the workshop will be selected by the Laughingstock crew to join them for the performance that night and become a temporary member of the troupe.

One of the reasons Laughing Stock is coming to Emery County is that one of its permanent members and vice president is Dory Peacock of Castle Dale. Dory, the daughter of Gwen and Neal Peacock, will be performing that night along with the rest of the Laughing Stock gang. The show will last about two hours and will feature people from the audience giving the troupe their best and crazy ideas for the games and skits. All profits from this show will go to the Emery High theatre department to be used to purchase costumes, props, royalties and scenery for the upcoming play “XANADU,” which will be on March 14, 15 and 18.

Before “XANADU” kicks off, the theatre department will also have a “Night of Desert Stars,” which will feature the best of Emery High’s musical scenes, readings, non-musical scenes and pantomimes. That “Night of Desert Stars” will be held in the Emery High auditorium on Feb. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. Again, the proceeds from that event will go to help pay for “XANADU.” “XANADU” will be director Neal Peacock’s 200th production over his 36 years of teaching and directing.

The Emery theatre department invites everyone to come and help kick it all off by coming to the Laughing Stock night of hilarity and fun on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tickets can be purchased from theatre students or at the door the night of the performance. It is good, clean, family entertainment for people of all ages that will leave you laughing long after the show is over.
