Press Release
The Emery High drama department is preparing to perform the play “ELF Jr. the Musical” on Dec. 19, 20 and 21 (Wed, Thur, Fri.) at 8 p.m. at the Emery High auditorium. The cost for admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students with children 5 and under FREE!
Last year, the EHS drama department presented this same play and enjoyed it so much that they decided to do it again, especially since they only lost three cast members from last year. So, once again, Emery High will perform the musical by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin with music by Matthew Sklar and Lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The play is again directed by Neal Peacock with Marilee Cox as music director and Shala Hunsaker as vocal director.
This play is based on the New Line Cinema film “Elf” written by David Berenbaum. It is the story of a real boy, raised at the North Pole by Santa and his elves, who discovers that he IS a real boy and that he has a father living in New York City. Buddy travels to NYC to find his father and manages to disrupt everything. Getting it all straightened out takes some of Santa’s magic and the audience’s belief in Christmas.
This time, the production is at 8 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. because of conflicts with basketball and swim. The later time allows students to attend both scheduled things. This works because the play is only 1 hour and 15 minutes. It’s the best time of the year but it’s also the busiest time of the year.
The play stars Jon Seely as Buddy the Elf, Ethan Anderson as Santa Claus, Madison McCandless as Jovie, Buddy’s girlfriend, Jace Collard as Walter Hobbes, Taylor Durrant as Michael Hobbes, Cambrie Bennett as Shwanda and Parker Stilson in a variety of roles. The full cast is 36 students playing multiple parts, including elves.
Admission is paid at the door on the nights of performance and coupons will be available at elementary schools that will give elementary students $1 off of the admission price. Come and enjoy fun family entertainment to kick off your holiday celebrations.
