Carbon and South Sevier visited the Emery County Aquatic Center on Tuesday as the swim season is underway. The Spartans had a strong showing in their opening meet. Kallee Hooley (EHS) defeated Kacee Barrett (CHS) in 100 and 200 free while Dino Gabe Ibanez answered back beating Alex Frederick (EHS) in the boys’ 200 free. Ibanez also took the 100 free later in the day.

Haley Guymon finished with a lead of over 20 seconds in the 200 IM. Asher Beagley kept things going for Emery with a 10 second win in the same event on the boys side and another win in the 50 free. Carbon dominated the girls’ 50 free, recording the top 5 times with Sofia Crompton and Thalyn Lyman going one and two respectively, ended within a second of one another.

Abby Johansen ended on top in the 500 free while Guymon struck gold again in the 100 back. Carbon’s Camden Chamberlain was the next Dino to take first when he did so in the boys’ 100 back. Tyrca Jaramillo (CHS) continued the momentum, taking the 100 breast.

Carbon and Emery split the golds in relay. Emery won the boys’ and girls’ 200 medley and the boys’ 400 free while Carbon took the boys’ and girls’ 200 free and the girls’ 400 free.

At the end of the day Emery beat out Carbon 389 to 290 in the girls’ division and 342 to 172 in the boys’. Emery’s first year head coach, Alicia Whitesel, was exciting with her team’s start. “I was nervous [going into the meet], but it was good. To win without having our relays set is great. It was a good first meet.” Full results for each heat are below.
