Grand came to Castle Dale on Wednesday to wrap up the season series with the Spartans. Emery was lackadaisical in the early going as errors allowed the Red Devils to take a 12-0 lead. Of those 12 runs, seven were unearned.

The Spartans got their heads right in the bottom of the fourth when they strung together four hits, two walks and one hit by pitch to score six runs, all with two outs. The momentum continued on the black and gold’s side with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth. Emery led off the bottom half with five singles and a walk to make it 12-10.

An error and an RBI ground out eventually put Emery on top 13-12. Wade Stilson tripled in the bottom of the sixth, bringing home Ty Stilson for a needed insurance run. Grand would score once more but the Spartans stole the show and completed the unlikely comeback 14-13.

Wade finished the game 3-5 with a triple and a team-high four RBIs. Jace Magnum batted in another three runners to go along with a double in a 2-4 effort. Oakley Alton also hit a double and went 3-3 from the plate while Ty went 2-3 and Trevin Wakefield went 2-4.

On the mound, Easton Nielson settled things down and went four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) while striking out four batters for the win. Ryker Jensen picked up the save, closing down the final inning and a third.

The Spartans (7-7, 3-3) will open up their new field on Friday when Providence Hall (5-10) comes to town. Catch all the action live on ETV Channel 10 and online at etvnews.com/livesports.
