The Lady Spartans took the courts for the first time at home on Thursday when South Sevier came to town. There were close matches throughout the day as many sets required double-digit games to be decided.

In first singles, Morgan Hughes won 6-4, 7-5. Carlie Bennett and Paige Cox struggled in second and third singles, losing 3-6, 1-6 and 1-6, 2-6, respectively.

Haley Guymon and Shaylee Grange got Emery back on track with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in first doubles. It was a real nail biter in second doubles. Megan Hess and Aspen Tailor won the first set 7-6. The second set was just as close but the duo fell 5-7. In the decisive third set, the tandem ran out of steam and lost 2-6.

Emery could not get past the Lady Rams and was defeated by a score of 3-2. Up next, Emery will host Richfield on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
