Emery hosted Richfield on Thursday in a region matchup in a game that found the Spartans trailing the Wildcats throughout the game.
Emery was able to tie it up at 26 in the second quarter but went into halftime down 34-29. Richfield extended its lead to 14 after the third quarter of play. Emery went to a full court press in the final quarter to attempt the comeback. The Spartans found success using this strategy and made the game close in the final minutes. Emery scored 28 points in the last quarter but ultimately fell, 77-73.
Kyson Stilson had 29 points and six steals on the night. Many spectators were worried when they saw Stilson hit the floor, visibly in pain. He experienced muscle spasms in his calf but was good to go for Saturday’s game against rival Carbon High. Brax Jensen and Mason Faimalo each recorded double digits with 18 and 11 points, respectively.
Perhaps the biggest take away for the Spartans was the return of senior guard Cade Brazier who missed the first half of the season with stress fractures in both ankles. Brazier’s time was limited in his first game back. He missed his lone field goal attempt but his presence could be a huge spark to a team with recent struggles.
