The Spartans hosted alumni night on Tuesday in conjunction with the team’s annual senior night. The evening included alumni matches where AC Reeve went against Coach Allen and Newt Oveson took on both Gratt Dalton and Coach Oveson. There were nearly 20 total alumni present at the event.
Gus Dalton, Chase Christiansen and McKay Meccariello were all honored as part of the senior night festivities.
Emery started off fast by pinning their first four opponents. Byron Christiansen (106), Jarin Allen (113), Korby Christiansen (120) and Drake Mangum (126) all contributed to the early domination. The Spartans fell in the 132 match but then pinned the next five opponents they faced. Chase Christiansen (138), Bryar Meccariello (145), Gus Dalton (160), Hayes Dalton (170) and Szion Gibson (182) all helped to put Manti far behind. Braden Howard (220) fought hard for the Spartans but lost by a close decision, 11-9. Emery went on to win 54-21.
The Spartans have one more duel on the road against Duchesne on Thursday. They will then travel to Richfield to participate in the 3A Region contest on Feb. 1-2.
