The Lady Spartans suited up for a region game on Thursday evening against the North Sanpete Hawks. Megan Jensen started off hot, scoring the first seven Emery points. After a 2-2 tie early in the game, the Lady Spartans closed out the first quarter with an 18-0 run.

Emery had a rare offensive hiccup in the following quarter, only tallying four points. Even with the second quarter struggles, it was 24-10 at halftime with the Lady Spartans comfortably in control. They were able to get back on track offensively in the third quarter and put up 19 points. Judging by Emery’s lofty standards, they did not play their best game. With that being said, they were still able to pull out another 30+ point victory, 57-26.

Emery’s defense, on the other hand, stifled North Sanpete all night. The Hawks were held to eight points or under in every quarter and Emery had 21 team steals.

Jensen led the team with 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Kinlee Toomer and Morgan Hurdsman were flying all over the court and showed off their high basketball IQ to grab eight and seven steals, respectively. Kinlee added 10 points as well to help the Spartans remain in the win column.

For next week’s games, Emery (12-0, 4-0 Region 15) will travel to Moab to take on the Grand County Red Devils (5-6, 0-2 Region 15) on Jan. 15. Then, on Jan. 17, the Spartans will host a match against the stellar San Juan team (8-4, 3-0 Region 15).
